Images Tab
The Images tab attaches pictures to a story element: a casting photo for a character, a location snapshot for a setting, or reference and mood art for a scene. It appears on Character, Setting, and Scene elements, and on Notes forms.
Adding a picture
Click Add Picture and choose an image file from your computer. PNG, JPEG, and WebP files work. You can add as many pictures to an element as you want.
The gallery
Each picture appears as a thumbnail tile with three controls:
- Caption: a text field under the thumbnail. Type a description and it is saved with the outline.
- Enlarge: opens the picture at full size. Clicking the thumbnail itself does the same thing.
- Remove: deletes the picture from the element.
Viewing a picture full size
Enlarge opens the picture in a window titled with its file name, with your caption below it. Click Close to return to the tab.
How pictures are stored
Pictures are saved inside the outline file (.stbx), not as separate files on disk. They stay with the outline when you move it, email it, or restore it from a backup, so there are no loose image files to keep track of. When you add a picture whose long edge is larger than 2048 pixels, StoryCAD scales the stored copy down to 2048 pixels; smaller pictures are stored unchanged. This keeps an illustrated outline small enough to open and save quickly.
Pictures in reports
Printed and PDF reports can include your pictures as an appendix. See Print Reports.
